THE MAN WHO WAS ONE OF THE ARCHITECTS OF THE PLAN THAT BECAME ONE OF AMERICA'S GREATEST SCANDALS --- WATERGATE... DIED TODAY.
DUARTE GERALDINO TAKES A LOOK AT THE LIFE OF CHARLES COLSON... AND THE SPIRITUAL AWAKENING THAT CHANGED HIS LIFE.
<<

PKG:

On Saturday the man described as the "evil genius" of the Nixon Administration died from complications of a brain hemorrhage.

Charles Colson was 80 years old.

Colson Sot- " A year before I went to prison I found Christ"

Colson helped run the Committee to Re-elect the President.

In 1972 he helped devise a plan to break into the Democratic National Committee offices and gather intelligence on the opposition.

The plan backfired. The operatives were arrested and the Watergate scandal ensued. That led to Nixon's eventual resignation.

Sot-- Nixon ... " I resign...."

In the end Colson was convicted not for his role in Watergate...

{nats of Viet Nam war]

... but instead for trying to discredit a Pentagon analyst who leaked secret papers about the Viet Nnam war that could have hurt Nixon's chances for reelection

Colson spent seven months in prison and later founded Prison Fellowship Ministries.

(Nats of Colson walking through prison] "Being Nixon's right hand man doesn't mean anything, Being jesus' right hand man does."

Colson spent the next 35 years evangelizing and working with inmates.

He won several humanitarian awards and was even named by Time Magazine as one of the "25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America."

In the end he credited his failure as political operative for his success a minister.

IN 2000 FLORIDA GOVERNOR JEB BUSH RESTORED COLSON'S CIVIL RIGHTS... ALLOWING HIM TO PRACTICE LAW.. VOTE AND RUN FOR OFFICE.
