A former Jones County Sheriff's deputy is facing several charges after being accused of leaving the scene of an accident. According to the Houston County jail's website, Edward Eugene Royal was arrested Tuesday morning and released on bond a half hour later.
Jail records show that Royal is charged with tampering with evidence; remove/affixing license with intent to conceal; reckless driving; following too closely; driving on the wrong side of the road; leaving the scene of an accident with injuries; failure to report an accident; and driving on a divided highway.
Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece says Royal resigned shortly after his arrest.
