Jason Aldean was a hot topic at the Academy of Country Music Awards. The big time Nashville star has small town roots in Macon.
"Just growing up where I did, there were so many different influences coming out of Georgia. There were so many different sounds," Aldean said on CBS This Morning.
Before singing with the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Ludacris, he worked out of a truck delivering Pepsi products with his then-boss, Tommy Powell.
"We would be riding up and down the road and he would always get his air drums going and his air guitar going and before long, I got myself a whole band in my truck and he's doing the singing," said Powell.
Powell says they became close friends when his daughter and Aldean's then girlfriend were on the same softball team. But one of his fondest memories of the music sensation was on the golf course.
"On the first tee box, he went and hit the golf ball and somehow the head of the club went farther than the golf ball did."
Powell thumbed through some old memories and a demo tape created by Aldean. He says the only change he's seen in the country superstar is that he's gotten a haircut.
