BOFTA YIMAM SPOKE TO PEOPLE IN CENTRAL GEORGIA ABOUT HIS DEATH.

WHEN A GROUP OF ALMOST 250 VOLUNTEERED THEIR TIME REPAIRING HOMES AROUND MACON.

IT'S CALLED THE SPLASH PROJECT... AND VOLUNTEERS COME FROM CENTRAL GEORGIA AS WELL AS OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.

THEY GOT TO WORK ON MONDAY... PAINTING, ROOFING, AND DOING CARPENTRY ON HOMES OF LOW-INCOME ELDERLY AND DISABLED HOMEOWNERS IN MACON AND BIBB COUNTY.

WORKERS WILL FINISH UP TOMORROW... AND ONE HOMEOWNER SAYS SHE'S GRATEFUL FOR EVERYTHING THEY'VE DONE.

ABOUT 30 WORKERS ESCAPED SAFELY... AFTER A MONROE COUNTY LUMBER MILL CAUGHT FIRE THIS AFTERNOON.

SHANE COOK... WITH THE MONROE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS MORE THAN 50 FIREFIGHTERS WORKED TO PUT OUT THE BLAZE AT SOUTHERN FOREST INDUSTRIES.

IT'S ON OLD MACON ROAD.

SOUTHERN FOREST INDUSTRIES PRESIDENT CHARLES SIMMONS SAYS THEY WERE DOING ROUTINE MAINTENCE WHEN IT ALL HAPPENED.

ONE WORKER SAID SHE WAS IN THE BREAK ROOM WHEN SHE NOTICED THE FIRE.

Patricia Roberson "Well, I went immediatly to the water hoses and tried to help pull them to the fire. I seen a couple of guys pulling them, and I tried to help them."

SIMMONS SAYS THE FIRE WAS APPARENTLY SPARKED BY WELDING DURING ROUTINE REPAIR OF BROKEN MACHINERY.

HE SAYS THEY PLAN ON HAVING THE MILL UP AND RUNNING IN A WEEK.

LIEUTENANT COOK SAYS THE DAMAGE TO THE MILL IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.

MORE THAN HALF OF GEORGIA'S COUNTIES HAVE DOUBLE DIGIT UNEMPLOYMENT RATES.

THAT'S ACCORDING TO NEW NUMBERS FROM THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR.

81 COUNTIES IN GEORGIA HAVE UNEMPLOYMENT RATES OF AT LEAST TEN PERCENT.

AND 21 COUNTIES HAD UNEMPLOYMENT RATES LOWER THAN 8 PERCENT.

THIS MORNING... WE INCORRECTLY SAID JOHNSON COUNTY HAD THE HIGHEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN CENTRAL GEORGIA.

AS YOU CAN SEE... HANCOCK COUNTY HAD THE HIGHEST RATE... THEY CAME IN AT 12-POINT-7 PERCENT.

MEANWHILE... HOUSTON COUNTY HAD THE LOWEST RATE.

THEY REPORTED 6-POINT-8 PERCENT UNEMPLOYMENT.

WHILE BIBB COUNTY IS NEARING THE DOUBLE DIGIT MARK... THEY REPORTED 9 POINT 3 PERCENT.

WILLIE GEORGE TURNER'S FAMILY NEVER FORGOT HIM AFTER HE DIED FIGHTING IN THE VIETNAM WAR.

BUT THEY SAY WHEN MOTHER NATURE THREW A SURPRISE THEIR WAY... THEY HAD TO FACE HIS LIFE AND DEATH AGAIN... DECADES LATER.

THE TURNER-RAGAN AMERICAN LEGION POST... IS NAMED AFTER WILLIE TURNER.

THE POST GOT TURNER'S GRAVE SITE REPAIRED AND HELD A REBURIAL CEREMONY TODAY.
